When you visit Joyful Thrifty Home, it should be no secret to you that I am a Christian. Part of my mission here on this blog is to inspire to live well and I believe that includes giving you encouragement in your walk with Christ. So today I want to share with you a video by the Skit Guys called Unlike Christ. I hope that it makes you think about what kind Christian you choose to be.
Here’s a question for you to think about before you watch the video: When you think about what characterizes someone who is a Christian, what comes to mind?
Have any of those adjectives that popped up in the video ever described you or other Christians you know? If I am honest with myself, there have been times in my life that I portrayed some of those things. So it makes me wonder, what kinds of words would others use to describe me as a Christian? How would others describe you?
I don’t know about you but I don’t want to be known as a Christian who is hateful, judgmental, rude or hypocritical. I want to be known for loving others, being kind and patient. I want to be known for spreading joy and grace to those who need it most.
Christians are to be Christ Like
“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” -John 13:33 NIV
“The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” -Galatians 5:22-23 NIV
“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” -Ephesians 4:32
Would you take a moment to say this prayer with me?
Dear Lord, help me to be the kind of Christian that you have called me to be. Give me the courage and wisdom to know how to stand up for the truth but do so in a loving way so as not to be looked upon as self righteous and judgmental. Help me to show grace and love instead of hatred and dissension. Help me to show others what your love is.
It is my challenge to you to do at least one specific thing everyday to show Christs love to someone.
